The Challenge

For over 30 years, TV 2 has been a household name in Norway. While the TV 2 brand is recognizable by most consumers, its reputation remains firmly rooted in media. But many don't know that TV 2 has nearly 200 developers spread across various tech departments that work to bring its content to life across platforms and devices.

Technology is the driving force behind every story told on TV 2, so it should come as no surprise that the company constantly needs top tech talent. TV 2 was in the midst of shifting to a more cross-functional way of working, which meant that they needed to build entire teams from scratch. However, the HR team lacked the internal recruitment capacity to fulfill its ambitious hiring roadmap and struggled to overcome its reputation in the candidate market as a media company. As a result, TV 2 decided to partner with Amby to head up its recruitment efforts and reposition its employer brand in the tech candidate market.

The Solution

In the summer of 2022, TV 2 embedded four Amby consultants to ramp up hiring across its tech, product, engineering, and data departments. By opting for Amby's embedded recruitment model over the traditional agency, TV 2 could quickly add operational capacity, strategic input, and tech recruitment competency to aid its hiring teams.

A key focus for the Amby consultants from the beginning was to onboard themselves into TV 2's brand, culture, and way of working as they started filling key roles, refining the recruitment strategy, and hiring roadmap based on TV 2's unique needs. Amby's close collaboration and follow-up with hiring managers made it possible to scope out each role, prioritize who to hire first and why, and keep the momentum needed to succeed with hiring tech talent in a demanding market.

In addition to strategic and operational recruitment, Amby collaborated with TV 2's marketing team to help reposition TV 2 as a fast-paced, innovative, and lucrative environment for tech talent to grow their careers. One of the key elements to success was how the tech teams at TV 2 engaged and became a part of the solution. The team helped craft compelling articles highlighting TV 2's innovative projects and inviting work environment to showcase that they are much more than just another media company.

The Result

With a hands-on approach and focus on close collaboration, Amby and TV 2 has built new teams from scratch, brought top tech talent into existing teams, and created employer branding material.

Over the past year, TV 2 and the Amby consultants have been able to make 33 hires across its engineering, product, tech, and data departments. These hires brought critical tech competencies in-house, lowering TV 2's reliance on external tech consultants. The partnership also resulted in a successful ATS migration, more structured recruitment processes, a workflow for routinely publishing employee-written articles, and documentation to facilitate autonomous hiring teams through recruitment training and tools.

The Amby team was an integral to TV 2's day-to-day recruitment planning and operations. Combining top tech talent and meaningful stories allows TV 2 to create valuable moments for its viewers, and push the boundaries of what it means to work in media.
