Parentheses do indicate multiplication, BUT
you must finish all the calculations inside
the parentheses BEFORE you multiply by the
outside number. (Note: You can `distribute'
across parentheses  a necessity in algebra
if variables are involved  but in this case
it is not required or recommended.)
EXAMPLE:

6 + 2(1 + 3)=
6 + 2(4)
6 + 8
14
20  3(6  4) =
20  3(2) 20  6
14
